Hanging 10 Is Cool Even After Age 40

In Beverly Beyette’s article on Gidget (“Riding That Wave Again,” Oct. 14), I was saddened to read that “Tubesteak” no longer surfs because of his belief that people older than 40 who surf look “stupid.”

I am a 60-year-old surfer who manages to paddle out almost every morning. I surf with a group of men and women at the Newport Pier almost all of whom are older than 40. Many of them are powerful, skillful, graceful athletes.

Mr. Steak, you’re missing out!
