Eisner to Host Meeting on Lifting State Economy

Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Michael Eisner will host a gathering of California politicians and business leaders to discuss ways to revive the state’s slumping economy.
The Nov. 2 gathering, Partnering for California’s Future, was arranged by Gov. Gray Davis, said Maria Contreras-Sweet, head of the state Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
It will be held at Disney’s movie studio in Burbank.
California faces a budget shortfall next year if its general fund doesn’t recoup more than $6 billion spent to buy power on behalf of insolvent utilities.
In addition, electronics and software companies in California have been hurt by falling sales, and tourism has declined since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Lawmakers will talk with business leaders about ways to boost consumer confidence, revive tourism and protect jobs, Contreras-Sweet said.
Leaders from the technology, health, entertainment, tourism, aerospace and agriculture sectors will attend the meeting, she said.
