Brock Nutter threw for 339 yards and three touchdowns and Troy State defeated Cal State Northridge, 44-31, at Troy, Ala.
Northridge (1-5) came within three points when Marcus Brady connected with Jamaal Perry on a 12-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds left in the first half, making the score 34-31.
Brady passed for 350 yards, including four touchdowns, and Northridge rushed for 146 yards.
Demontray Carter ran for 164 yards and scored two touchdowns for Troy State (3-3), while Heyward Skipper had six receptions for 165 yards and two touchdowns.
Troy State scored on its first two drives, with Nutter hitting Skipper on a 12-yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter. He then connected with Carter on a 32-yard pass with 7:51 remaining in the quarter, making the score 14-0.
Brady connected with Anthony Ramos for an 82-yard touchdown pass play with 5:01 left in the second quarter to bring the Matadors to within 21-17.

John Spurlock scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 32-yard pass from Jesse Lowrey, and Thomas More (Kent.) defeated Chapman, 27-22, at Crestview Hills, Ky. Chapman (1-5) took a 17-10 lead on a 29-yard field goal by Matt Deter with 9:36 left in the third quarter. But Thomas More kicked a field goal, and Spurlock’s touchdown with 2:30 left in the third quarter put the Saints up for good. Curtis Williams’ 30-yard touchdown run gave Thomas More a 27-17 lead with 7:03 left.... Dan Gray scored two touchdowns in the final 4:18 and Azusa Pacific defeated host La Verne, 21-16. Gabe Lujan’s one-yard touchdown run gave La Verne (1-5) a 16-7 lead with 1:31 left in the third quarter. Lujan, who finished with 109 yards, also had a 56-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Azusa Pacific (4-3), which had only 58 yards in 23 carries, took a 7-0 lead on a five-yard touchdown run by Lathian Tyler.
