Schools Trustee Charged With DUI

A trustee for Newport-Mesa Unified School District has been charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said Monday.
James M. Ferryman, 53, who was arrested after a Sept. 27 traffic accident, had a blood-alcohol content of .19%, more than twice the legal limit of .08%, authorities said.
In the case filed Oct. 10, Ferryman was charged with one count of driving under the influence and one count of driving with a blood-alcohol content of above .08%, said Pete Huelsenbeck, spokesman for the Orange County district attorney’s office.
If convicted, he faces a $1,000 fine or up to six months in jail, Huelsenbeck said.
Ferryman did not return phone calls Monday seeking comment. At a school board meeting last week, he apologized but said he did not plan to resign, fellow board members said.
One trustee, Wendy Leece, has called for his resignation.
