BART Union May Reject ‘Final’ Contract Offer

A BART union is recommending that members reject the transit agency’s “best and final” offer, setting up a possible walkout Tuesday.
Bay Area Rapid Transit presented the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Local 3993, with its offer last week. It asked union officials to schedule a vote this week so passengers could be given advance warning of a strike.
But union President Norma del Mercado said members would be unable to vote before Monday, when a cooling-off period prohibiting the 230-member union from striking expires at midnight.
