Biltmore Bargain

Regarding Christopher Reynolds’ article on Asheville, N.C. (“Uptown, Down-Home Appalachia,” Oct. 28), my mother and I visited the area last May. We stayed at the newly opened Inn on Biltmore Estate; it truly made the experience of visiting George Vanderbilt’s estate complete.
The inn has an atmosphere of understated elegance, beautifully furnished rooms and service harking back to another era. The inn is five miles from the mansion, in a bucolic setting above the winery.
The Grove Park Inn is well worth seeing; it is reminiscent of an early 19th century national park hotel.
Visiting the Biltmore Estate was the main reason for our trip to the Carolinas, and it definitely lived up to our expectations. We had a wonderful mother-and-daughter vacation.
