Charlotte 100, Long Beach State 81--Brown made five of seven three-point shots and Charlotte sank 68.4% of its three-pointers in its nonconference victory at the Pyramid.
Brown, a sophomore guard, finished with 27 points. Jobey Thomas, a senior guard, also helped keep Long Beach on the outside looking in, by making four of seven from long range. Thomas finished with 22 points.
As a team, Charlotte made 13 of 19 three-pointers.
Charlotte (2-1), which lost standout forward Rodney White to the NBA after his freshman season, had a 12-point lead on No. 20 Indiana before losing, 65-61, last Sunday.
The team came back strong against Long Beach (2-2), becoming the first opponent to score 100 points at the Pyramid since Long Beach began playing there in 1994-95.
Charlotte shot 67.6% in the first half, leading by as many as 25 points, at 58-33, in the final minute.
“Offensively, they were very unforgiving,” Long Beach Coach Wayne Morgan said.”They’re a good team. Our team is a growing team, we’re getting better but still developing. This was a night where they let us know, ‘Hey, we’re bigger than you.”’
