Forest Service Says Group Can’t Repair Road

The Forest Service rejected a citizen shovel brigade’s latest plan to rebuild part of a washed-out road in a national forest without new environmental studies, citing potential harm to threatened trout in northeast Nevada’s Jarbidge River.
Forest Service supervisor Robert Vaught, in his first formal decision since a court-ordered mediation settlement in April, said there isn’t time to complete the necessary environmental reviews for the Elko County citizens group to begin the work they scheduled for Sept. 15.
