MY FAVORITE WEEKEND

* The Oscar-and Emmy-nominated actor, who was in “X-Men” last year, appears in the film “crazy/beautiful,” which opens Friday.
Up and Away: We usually take off from the Santa Monica Airport and fly up to Harris Ranch in the San Joaquin Valley for a steak dinner, and then fly back. I fly up there with my friend Jeff Siegel; he’s one of my best friends and the contractor on my house right now. The Harris Ranch has the best steaks in the world, I think, except maybe for something in New Mexico or Texas--if you’re a meat eater.
Fun on Ice: Then we might fly up to Sun Valley [ski resort in Idaho]. I have a 5-year-old, Ethan, and Jeff’s two boys, Jason and Stevie--we all fly up together. We go the Sun Valley lodge to see the ice show that’s usually there on the weekends. Dorothy Hamill and other people perform there on the weekends.
A River Runs Through It: There’s a river that runs through Sun Valley that’s good for fishing. I’m not a great fisherman--I never had the patience--but my son seems to. We also might go skiing on Mt. Baldy.
Yo-Ho-Ho and a Bottle of Rum: My second-choice weekend starts at the Santa Monica Pier, and then we’d go up to Leo Carrillo State Park, the beach with the caves that go down to it. We play pirates, and it’s a great place for that because so many pirate movies were shot there. They probably drowned Robert Newton there. But I’ve always loved playing there among the hills and the cliff and caves.
Dramatic Drive: The best times I can think of are always beach times, all up and down the coast. Sometimes we’ll drive down to San Diego and stay at Coronado and catch a show at the Old Globe. My wife, Lisa Pelikan, and I both performed there and love to go there. Also, South Coast Rep in Costa Mesa is a wonderful place to visit on the day down there, and the La Jolla Playhouse. It’s a good theater drive. And while we’re in San Diego, we’d have dinner at Tapas, where the Spanish cuisine is wonderful.
