‘Pardon Our Dust’ Series Takes Honors in Journalism Contest
SALT LAKE CITY — The “Pardon Our Dust” remodeling series that appears in The Times’ Real Estate section tied for second place in the Best Serial Report category in the 51st annual journalism competition sponsored by the National Assn. of Real Estate Editors.
Contest winners were announced here last week during the association’s 35th annual real estate journalism conference.
The series, written by freelancer Kathy Price-Robinson, tied with the work of Mary Umberger of the Chicago Tribune. The winner in the category was Mary Shanklin of the Orlando Sentinel.
The competition drew entries from more than 200 journalists from across the United States, who competed in 15 categories. The contest was judged by three faculty members at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. All the judges are former news reporters and editors.
NAREE, founded in 1929, is the only professional association for the nation’s journalists covering residential and commercial real estate for the consumer and trade media.
Members include reporters, editors, columnists and freelance writers working in print, broadcast and online media.
