In Brief

This gentle collection of rootsy Latin songs is the poor man’s version of “Canto,” the recent stellar album by Los Super Seven, of which erstwhile country singer Trevino is a member. Both albums feature the same producer (Steve Berlin) and some of the same musicians. Even though “Mi Son” sounds anemic at times, Trevino’s choice of canciones can be surprising. He transforms the tango “Vuelvo al Sur” into a pop ballad, then proves he knows how to party on the raucous “El Tira Y Jala.” No dark subtext here, just a handful of sunny, heartwarming tunes.
