Shop Till You Drop--From Smoke Inhalation
It was quite a fire sale.
When a blaze broke out in a Boston Macy’s department store being renovated, some shoppers, eager to get Father’s Day gifts, refused to leave.
“The customers were very upset that we weren’t waiting on them,” salesclerk Carolyn Perry said.
The customers, she said, “were upset that I was leaving. So they ran to other sales associates so they could get their purchases anyway.”
Another clerk told of one customer who, despite hearing the fire alarms, wouldn’t let her leave.
“I couldn’t leave. The young fellow wanted to get waited on. He kept walking behind me. I just told him, ‘I’m sorry. I have to leave.’ ”
No one was injured, and the fire was quickly controlled.
