A premature Swedish baby is recovering well after doctors removed a rare malignant tumor half his birth weight, the Aftonbladet newspaper reported.
Surgeons removed the tumor immediately after the baby was delivered by Caesarean section six weeks early, weighing 6.6 pounds.
Now 3 weeks old, he weighs 4 pounds. “It is a miracle that he survived,” his 24-year-old mother, Caroline Hallqvist, said.
The tumor, a teratoma, also known as false twins, occurs only about once a year in Sweden, the newspaper said.
