2 American Red Cross Chapters to Merge
The Ojai and Ventura County chapters of the American Red Cross will merge, creating a single, countywide group with improved disaster-relief efforts and training.
The merger, scheduled for July 1, will cut administrative costs, said Ann Sobel, the Ventura County chapter’s executive director. The dollars saved will give the Ojai office more staff hours, as well as provide baby-sitting classes and equipment for CPR, Sobel said.
Sobel is to retire this week and will be replaced by Jason Smith.
The Ventura County chapter already operates sites in Port Hueneme, Camarillo and Simi Valley. More than 1,000 people volunteer with the local organization.
