Assembly Helps Districts in Bid for Base Land

A bill that would help Santa Ana claim 100 acres of land at the closed Tustin Marine base passed the Assembly on Monday.
The bill by Sen. Joe Dunn (D-Santa Ana), which already passed in the Senate, would give priority to school construction over other redevelopment activities at closed military bases. It passed the Assembly on a party-line vote of 45-28.
A second bill by Assemblyman Lou Correa (D-Anaheim) would require Tustin to set aside 100 acres for the Santa Ana Unified and Rancho Santiago Community College districts. It passed the Assembly in April and is set for a Senate vote this week.
Dunn’s bill now goes back to the Senate for approval of technical amendments before being sent to Gov. Gray Davis.
