Nurses at 2 Hospitals Reject Contract; Strike

About 1,500 registered nurses from two Minneapolis-area hospitals set up picket lines after rejecting a contract offer they said did not provide for adequate patient care.
Nurses at four other Twin Cities hospitals ratified contracts Saturday; nurses at a fifth hospital were still voting.
Jean Ross, a 27-year veteran nurse who was on the negotiating committee, said nurses are overworked, with too few personnel to cover patient loads.
Nurses said pay was not a major issue; the tentative contract provided increases of nearly 20%.
