Controlled Burn Planned for 700 Acres Near City
The largest controlled burn of Ventura County’s 2001 fire season is scheduled to begin about 9 a.m. Tuesday on 700 acres between Fairview and Foothill roads.
County fire spokeswoman Sandi Wells said the goal is to create a buffer between acres of open brush and residential housing. The fire, which will burn in the Upper Ojai area near California 150, is expected to be out by 5 p.m., she said.
“It will be pretty large,” Wells said. “We will have firefighters standing by. We want to have this done before it gets too hot and dry.”
Wells said the burn will be canceled if the weather is too wet, foggy or hot.
