Freedom of Expression
Re “Offending the Flag,” letter, July 27: I did a combat tour in Vietnam, and then I did 30 years as a cop here in California, so I think I have earned the right to voice an opinion on the issue of an amendment to the Constitution to protect the American flag from desecration. My opinion? Such an amendment would make freedom of expression a crime. This cheapens the deaths of all those brave soldiers who fought and died for that freedom. Leave the Constitution alone. It doesn’t need tinkering with, at the hands of our self-serving politicians.
