Spot in Acura Classic on Line in Playoff

Kim-Ahn Nguyen of Orange, Beau Jones of Encinitas and Anita Loyola of Tucson will compete in a one-day, round-robin tennis playoff beginning at 10 a.m. Friday at La Costa Resort and Spa for wild-card entry into the $750,000 Acura Classic.
The winner gains a berth in the 48-player singles main draw of the Acura Classic, which runs Monday-Aug. 5 at La Costa. Both runners-up will receive spots in the 16-player singles qualifying tournament Saturday and Sunday at the same site.
Jones, Nguyen and Loyola won opportunity tournaments in Industry Hills, San Clemente and San Diego, respectively, in the past three weeks to earn playoff spots.
