The Real Heroes Are in Cambodia
How disappointing that Eric Pape chose to portray Khmer generals as heroes fighting for democracy in Cambodia (“The Remote-Control Revolution,” June 24). Ask the children who stumble over land mines if those men are heroes, or the poor farmers who must suffer torture and other horrors in prison. Pape would have done Long Beach’s Cambodian refugee community a greater service if he had written about those who return to Cambodia to fight for women’s rights and judicial reform and those who build schools and open businesses that pay a livable wage.
