Nelson and De Vera Eliminated in Tennis
No. 2-seeded Lindsey Nelson of Orange and No. 5-seeded Judith De Vera of Carson were eliminated Friday in singles quarterfinals of the U.S. Tennis Assn. Super National Girls’ 16 Clay Court Championships at Virginia Beach, Va.
Sixth-seeded Nicole Leimbach of Colorado Springs, Colo., defeated Nelson, 7-6 (4), 6-2, and fourth-seeded Caitlin Collins of Lawrence, Kan., defeated De Vera, 6-2, 6-4.
* Third-seeded Jesse Witten of Naples, Fla., defeated sixth-seeded Robert Yim of Glendale, 6-2, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the Super National Boys’ 18 Clay Court Championships at Louisville, Ky.
* The No. 3-seeded team of Angela Haynes of Compton and Ahsha Rolle of Miami Shores, Fla., advanced to the doubles semifinals with a 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3 victory over Frances Deason of Houston and Lauren Perl of San Diego in the Super National Girls’ 18 Clay Court Championships at Memphis, Tenn.
