Coach Alejandro Torres of Scott Academy, a girls’ juvenile correctional facility in Saugus, has found the going tougher than expected in the program’s first year.
The Royals were 0-11 overall and 0-4 in Alpha League play entering Tuesday night’s game at L.A. Baptist after beginning the season with a perhaps naive goal of qualifying for the Southern Section playoffs.
“It might have a little bit to do with [the skill level of the other teams in the Alpha League],” Torres said. “But another reason is that the girls are having a hard time playing together as a team. We’re not doing that very well.”
