Hueneme is 3-7 and things could get more difficult.
Richard Jones, the Vikings’ top player, is expected to be sidelined for two weeks after spraining his right ankle in a nonleague loss at Muir last Wednesday.
“He’s been our most consistent player,” Coach Tom McCollum said. “He gives us rebounding, which we have very little of, and he can score and play defense.”
Jones, a 6-0 senior, is playing power forward on a under-sized Hueneme squad.

Tyler Ebell of Ventura, who rushed for a national-record 4,494 yards and 64 touchdowns during football season, made a successful basketball debut last week by scoring 35 points in a pair of Cougar victories.
Ebell scored 17 points in a 74-72 double-overtime victory over Channel Islands on Wednesday and had 18 points in a 56-47 victory over Buena on Friday.
Although Ebell looked rusty against Channel Islands, he “looked a lot less rusty” against Buena, Ventura Coach Dan Larson said.
“He just has a step he didn’t have last year. He had it in football and he has it in basketball.”
