17 Hurt as Pickup Hits Propane Tank

The wreckage of several campers and mobile homes littered part of Truth or Consequences after an unoccupied pickup truck rolled across a street and hit a propane tank, touching off two fiery explosions that turned night into day. Seventeen people were treated for minor burns or smoke inhalation after the incident Sunday night. Authorities said 13 structures were burned, along with 10 trucks and cars, a horse trailer and a boat. The pickup had been parked at a gas station but rolled across to the Cortez Gas Co. and struck an 18,000-gallon propane tank, police said.
