Competition Seeks Score for Silent Film
Cable’s Turner Classic Movies network, Film Music magazine and the Guitar Center will accept entries through March 31 for the second annual Young Film Composers Competition.
The 2001 winner will receive $5,000 and access to all the necessary resources to compose and record a score for a yet-to-be-announced silent film that will premiere on TCM.
Interactive entry forms, posted on the Web at https://turnerclassicmovies.com/music, will allow composers to submit demo scores for 90-second silent movie clips to MP3.com. Links from TCM to MP3.com will allow artists to sign up for free Web pages and to upload the audio files of their demos for review by a team of music industry professionals.
TCM will broadcast “The Ace of Hearts,” the 1921 Lon Chaney silent film recently scored by 2000 contest winner Vivek Maddala, at midnight Monday.
