Waves Consoled by 97-65 Victory

Devin Montgomery and Boomer Brazzle each scored a career-high 21 points as Pepperdine beat West Virginia, 97-65, in the consolation game of the Bank One Fiesta Bowl Classic on Sunday at Tucson, Ariz.

Jimmy Miggins had 18 points and seven rebounds and Robert Turner, a freshman, had a season-high 17 points as the Waves (6-6) bounced back from a 94-71 loss to No. 14 Arizona in the first round.

Chris Moss had 25 points for West Virginia (7-4), which dropped a 76-57 decision to Valparaiso in its opener.

Montgomery matched his previous best game in the first half, when he made all five of his three-point attempts and scored 17 points.

He had two and Brazzle one during a surge in which Pepperdine made four straight three-pointers. The Waves had a 12-point lead when Montgomery made the first three-pointer with 10:13 left in the half, and his next 2:38 later boosted them to a 37-18 lead.

The Waves, who turned heads by upsetting UCLA and USC early in the season, took their biggest lead of the half, 53-28, with 38 seconds left.

Montana 82, Loyola Marymount 67--Dan Trammel had 18 points and 16 rebounds in 23 minutes for the Grizzlies at Missoula, Mont.

Loyola Marymount (6-6) twice sliced Montana’s 40-27 halftime lead to eight points, the last time on two free throws by Keith Kincade that made it 44-36 with 18:28 remaining.

Three free throws by Brent Cummings with 8:07 left gave Montana (6-7) its largest lead, 72-47. Loyola Marymount went 11-0 over the final 2:30.

Kincade and Andy Osborn led the Lions with 12 points apiece.
