Monteria Ivey, 41; N.Y. Radio Show Co-Host, ‘Insult’ Comic, Author

Monteria Ivey, 41, a comedian, New York radio personality and author known for his writings on African American humor, died Dec. 13 of diabetic shock in New York City.

Ivey was born in New York and started acting in high school before attending Dartmouth College.

After graduation, Ivey began doing stand-up comedy, specializing in the form of insult known as “snapping.”

His collected snaps, or one-liners, later resulted in the books “Snaps,” “Double Snaps” and “Triple Snaps,” co-written with Stephan Dweck and James Percelay.

Ivey and Dweck were also co-hosts of the New York radio program “Sports Funk,” which offered analysis on current events in sports and humor from an African American viewpoint. The show emerged after the pair made regular appearances on the Don Imus radio program.
