Health on Campus

I want to thank L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky for his outrage that school districts allow fast-food chains and soft drink machines on public school campuses (Dec. 24). I hope he uses his political clout to do something about it. As a parent and as an L.A. Unified teacher, I too am outraged that this occurs.
We should be teaching children about healthy living and good nutrition, but those of us who try have quite a battle to fight even within our own school system. The longer I teach, the more I realize that education has more to do with politics and money than it has to do with what is in the best interests of children.
