Neighbor Fights Fire but Can’t Save Victim
A man whose legs had been amputated died in a fire in southwest Los Angeles on Tuesday night, despite a neighbor’s efforts to put out the blaze with a garden hose.
The fire in a house on West 60th Street near Western Avenue was reported at 6:14 p.m.
A neighbor forced his way through the front door and extinguished the fire, a Fire Department spokesman said, but the victim and about four square feet of carpeting around him were burned.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, Humphrey said. The victim appeared to be in his 60s.
