A tractor-trailer plowed into a funeral procession in Wallingford, killing two and injuring 10, police said.
As the procession approached a construction zone where two lanes of traffic merged into one, the big rig crashed into as many as six vehicles from behind before slamming into a retaining wall, police said. The two who died were pinned in a pickup truck. The tractor-trailer driver was unharmed.
Northbound lanes of Interstate 476 in the southeastern part of the state were closed for nearly six hours as workers cleared debris including blackened funeral wreaths.
