IRA Backers Clash With Police, Soldiers
From Times Wire Reports
IRA supporters armed with clubs, fence posts and other makeshift weapons clashed with riot police and soldiers at three British security installations near the border with the Irish Republic.
Police said 21 officers and three soldiers suffered mostly minor injuries. Four people were arrested.
The protests, organized by the youth wing of Sinn Fein, the political wing of the Irish Republican Army, were aimed at the continued deployment of British troops in South Armagh, an IRA stronghold along the border.
