SAO PAULO, Brazil — Police captured the last two suspects in the killing of Peter Blake, a yachting champion from New Zealand who was shot to death in Brazil, officials said Sunday.
The suspects were detained on an island about 12 miles from Macapa, near the mouth of the Amazon River where Blake’s boat was moored when he was killed Wednesday night, federal police agent Jose Araujo said.
The suspects were found in a cabin with objects from Blake’s boat, including a motor and his watch, Araujo said. On Friday, police detained seven other men on charges of involvement in the assault; three were later released.
Blake, who led New Zealand to America’s Cup victories in 1995 and 2000, was on an expedition to monitor global warming and pollution.
