Bush Pick to Head NASA Faces Senate Committee

Senators at a committee confirmation hearing made clear to President Bush’s choice to head NASA that they don’t want his cost-cutting skills to be used to undermine the scientific goals of the international space station and other key agency programs.
Sean O’Keefe, 45, said that in the long run he can “reinvigorate the entrepreneurial spirit” of NASA. He agreed with senators that hobbling the space station “would be a tragedy.” He is expected to win quick Senate approval.
He would replace Daniel S. Goldin, who stepped down last month.
