City Council Shuffle
Re “Padilla Adds 2 Council Blacks to Key Panels,” Aug. 9: Los Angeles City Council President Alex Padilla did not select his appointments in a vacuum. I am sure that he went over his choices with many higher-ups. And the choices were OKd.
This is a sad day in the City of the Angels, when a leader of a minority group discriminates against another minority group by not appointing any one of them to at least one position. Now, he has drawn attention to his racial bias, and whatever he does is suspect.
In our city, real leaders remain aware of our diversity and avoid the suspicion of racism. Real politicians don’t fall into the pit that Padilla was blind to. What’s wrong with him? Just because he’s young doesn’t mean he has to act stupidly.
