After Giving Everyone a Scare, Lutheran’s Riehle Out of Hospital
Devin Riehle, the Orange Lutheran football player injured during Thursday’s game against Sunny Hills, was released Friday from UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Riehle, a senior linebacker, was diagnosed with a mild concussion but cleared of any internal injuries.
Riehle collapsed on the sideline early in the fourth quarter and complained of sharp pain in his torso and involuntary muscle contractions, said his father, Bill Riehle. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance minutes before the end of Orange Lutheran’s 19-7 victory.
“He scared the heck out of everyone,” Bill Riehle said.
Bill Riehle said the injuries occurred during three separate plays, beginning as early as the first quarter.
“He was being hard-headed and he stayed in the game instead of telling people how he felt,” Bill Riehle said. “UCI did a phenomenal job . . . He should be back with the team in a couple days.”
