Netherlands Defeats Brazil for Fifth Place
Guido Gortzen had 11 kills as The Netherlands finished fifth in men’s volleyball by defeating Brazil 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 Friday.
Max Pereira had eight kills to lead Brazil, which came in sixth for its worst showing since a seventh-place finish in 1976. The Brazilians won gold in 1992.
Ramon Gato had 11 kills as Cuba defeated Australia, 25-23, 25-11, 25-15, for seventh place.
Australia took a surprising eighth in its first Olympics, finishing ahead of Spain, South Korea, the United States and Egypt.
