Etiwanda 34, Capistrano Valley 26
Chris Singleton rushed for 228 yards and four touchdowns to lead visiting Etiwanda.
Singleton, a 6-5, 190-pound senior tailback, carried 35 times, scoring from 42, one, one and four yards and thwarted Capistrano Valley’s comeback bid by running for 18 yards on fourth down with time running out.
The Eagles (2-2) scored 20 first-quarter points and appeared headed for an easy victory until the Cougars (1-3) responded with 18 points in the second quarter.
Quarterback David Frazeur hit wide receiver Tristan Gowing with scoring passes of 43 and 20 yards, and Ryan Bogue kicked a 22-yard field goal to make it 20-18 at halftime.
Singleton scored from one yard with 24 seconds left in the third quarter and the Etiwanda defense stifled the Cougars until Frazeur connected with Jon Hair on a two-yard scoring pass with 3:36 remaining in the game.
Etiwanda recovered the onside kick and faced fourth and five with a minute left when Singleton secured the victory with his 18-yard run.
