Buena Park (2-2) was held to 25 yards in the first half, but got untracked in the second half thanks to a pair of touchdown passes from Tho Thach to Joey Alatorre at Glover Stadium.
Savanna’s Brad Thompson scored on a quarterback sneak behind center Joshua Peacock from one yard to give the Rebels the lead, 6-0, in the second quarter. Early in the third quarter, Savanna lineman Kenny Grajeda returned a fumble 94 yards for a touchdown to give the Rebels a 12-0 lead.
Following an interception by Buena Park linebacker Gonzalo Mesa late in the third quarter, Thach connected with Alatorre on a 15-yard touchdown pass. They connected again in the fourth quarter on a 70-yard scoring pass.
Buena Park sophomore running back Sheldon Reid sealed the victory with a 17-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
