The Planning Commission has denied an operating permit requested by Longs Drug Store.
“It’s not in accordance with the downtown specific plan, which envisions small and unique shops,” Commissioner Cheryl Kinsman said of the request. “Anywhere but downtown, Longs is welcome. But for some reason, everyone wants to be downtown.”
Longs applied to build a 16,000-square-foot retail store in the 200 block of Broadway. The vote was 5 to 0
Longs has 10 days to appeal the decision to the City Council.
