Man, 72, Killed, Woman Critically Injured in 2 Accidents
Two major but unrelated accidents Thursday in Ventura County left one man dead and a woman critically injured.
At 4 p.m. in Thousand Oaks, a 72-year-old Camarillo man was killed after a GMC Jimmy driven by a young woman broadsided his vehicle, Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Claude Robillard said.
The man, who was driving a Lincoln, attempted to make a left turn onto Olsen Road from a California 23 offramp when he moved into the path of the sport utility vehicle, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. County coroner’s office officials did not release the man’s identity Thursday night, pending notification of his family.
At about 8 p.m., a woman driving north on Pacific Coast Highway lost control of her vehicle, which then ran off the highway and knocked out a utility pole on Maulhardt Road in Oxnard.
The woman, who was not identified, was ejected from the vehicle and taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in critical condition, paramedics said.
California Highway Patrol and Oxnard police officers responded to the scene. CHP officers closed Pacific Coast Highway in both directions.
