LAGUNA BEACH

Nine out of 10 Laguna Beach County Water District customers who responded to a poll indicated that they want the agency to remain independent from the city.
The district is scheduled to become a subsidiary of Laguna Beach on Nov. 1. The district polled its 8,200 members this month. Of the 1,700 that were returned, more than 90% favor keeping the district separate from the city, authorities say.
“Let’s hope our city officials are listening to what the community has to say,” Lou Zitnik, vice president of the water board, said.
The board adopted a resolution seeking the cooperation of the City Council in preserving the district’s status as an independent special district at its Sept. 18 meeting.
The Laguna Beach County Water District has provided water to the community for 75 years.
