Crescenta Valley Makes Splash in Opener, 19-4
Crescenta Valley High, which reached the Southern Section Division III boys’ water polo final in 1999, began its march back to the championship game Tuesday with a 19-4 nonleague victory over San Marino at Crescenta Valley.
Jeff Little had eight goals and two assists, and David Mulcahey had seven goals and one assist for the Falcons, ranked second in the Southern Section Division III coaches’ poll.
Travis Schmitt had seven steals and four assists, and Mike Hoy had eight saves for Crescenta Valley.
In other water polo games:
Thousand Oaks 16, Calabasas 6--Eric Markel scored seven goals and Bryan Barbachano had nine saves for the Lancers (2-3) in a nonleague victory at Calabasas.
Crespi 13, El Segundo 10--Hernan Golbert scored four goals and Ryan Martin had five saves for the Celts (5-0) in a nonleague victory at El Segundo.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Valley 15, El Camino 12--Shelly Stiles and Pam Navarro each scored two goals in a six-goal fourth quarter that carried the Monarchs to victory in a nonconference game at El Camino (0-1).
Julie Olson had seven goals and four assists for the Monarchs (3-2). Stiles finished with four goals and two assists, and Navarro had three goals and two assists.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Simi Valley def. Burbank, 16-14, 8-15, 15-12, 12-15, 15-3--Sarah Silagy had 13 kills and five blocks for the Pioneers (1-0) in a nonleague victory at Burbank.
Ventura def. Hart, 10-15, 15-6, 15-7, 16-14--Chelsea Rassmussen had 13 kills and nine digs in a nonleague victory for the Cougars (1-0) at Ventura.
Village Christian def. Marlborough, 13-15, 15-11, 15-8, 15-9--Maria Abaca had 15 kills and Heather Fieldsteel had 27 assists for the Crusaders (5-0) in a nonleague victory at Marlborough.
Flintridge Sacred Heart def. La Canada, 3-15, 15-9, 15-13, 12-15, 15-10--Sarah Skeehan had 18 kills, six blocks and four aces in a nonleague victory for the host Tologs (1-0).
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Buena 9, Hart 9--Kira Patel and Robbin Remigio won in doubles to get the Indians (0-2) even, but the Bulldogs (2-0) got a nonleague victory on games, 74-73, at Buena.
