The City Council last week passed an ordinance that prohibits the drinking of alcohol in public places.
City Manager William Talley said the ordinance is designed to target drinking in parking lots or in front of the stores from which the beverages are purchased, and would not be used to cite residents on their own property.
The council also approved the purchase of two lots in the Town Center development, on the corner of El Paseo and El Portal. The city purchased the lots, which are just under 2 acres, for $1.1 million to use as a site for a future City Hall.
