Telling It Like It Is

Regarding the Wander Year series: I loved Mike McIntyre’s articles at the beginning of his journey. His dry wit in describing the pitfalls that befall most travelers was refreshingly honest.
I read some comments from readers that accused him of being too negative. Obviously someone told him to lighten up on his criticisms because every column for the last couple of months has been glowing with praise. Give me a break!
I have traveled through dozens of countries, and nowhere is perfect. Those individuals who can recall the negative aspects with humor are far more interesting to listen to than those who simply say how lovely things were. In addition, those who later visit those places won’t go with unrealistic expectations.
Let Mr. McIntyre know that some of us appreciate his candor.
