Museum Support

Thank you for Suzanne Muchnic’s excellent Aug. 30 article, “Museums, Sponsors Too Cozy?” The question is not whether Eames or Faberge “deserve” shows--surely they do. Nor is the question whether museums will enter into joint ventures with the collector and corporate rich--surely, in one way or another, they always have and will. The question is the degree to which individual museums (and the larger, organized art world) expend the effort to find or create support for the exhibitions and programs which, a priori, they deem worthy but which do not have natural moneyed constituencies or champions.
I am concerned less with whether a museum works with Eames than I am with whether it is aggressively addressing the broader support issue. And in more than words.
