Newport Corp. Acquires Robotics Specialists
Newport Corp., an Irvine maker of precision components and instruments, said Friday that it has acquired an Arizona systems integrator that specializes in the use of robotics for the fiber-optics and semiconductor industries. Newport did not disclose financial terms for its purchase of Unique Equipment Co. in Chandler. Newport said in a press release that it acquired closely held Unique Equipment to pick up experience in automation for small-part handling, laser-based systems and assembly station design. Newport’s stock price gained 6% Friday to close at $168.94, up $9.94 in Nasdaq trading.
