* Defensive end Erik Gardner of Cal State Northridge broke his right hand in the Matadors’ 24-12 victory over Montana State on Saturday.
Gardner, however, remained in the game and is not expected to miss the Matadors’ home game against Eastern Washington on Saturday.
GOLF
* Don Fiala and Chad Holden of Wood Ranch Country Club in Simi Valley are tied for third place after shooting a 68 in the Southern California PGA Pro-Assistant Championship at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club in Calimesa.
Greg VanNatta and Charles DeLorey of Bermuda Dunes Country Club shot a 66 and Kelly Manos and Steve Alt of Big Canyon Country Club finished with a 67. Eight other teams are tied with Fiala and Holden at 68.
The tournament concludes today.
VOLLEYBALL
* Pepperdine, coming off a five-set victory over West Coast Conference rival Santa Clara, is ranked No. 9 in the nation.
The Waves (17-3, 6-0) have won 25 consecutive conference matches.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS
* The sixth Ventura County Special Olympics Five-a-Side soccer tournament will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Cal Lutheran.
Athletes from Ventura, Los Angeles, Kern and Santa Barbara counties will compete at the north campus.
Students from Cal Lutheran will help run the tournament.
