Security Guard Dead After Shooting at South-Central School
LOS ANGELES — A security guard was shot and killed Monday morning at the parking lot of a newly opened school in South-Central Los Angeles, police said.
Los Angeles resident Reginald Millsaps, 20, was shot at 1:05 a.m. and died at 1:48 a.m. at Martin Luther King Jr.-Drew Medical Center, said Det. Rick Gordon.
Millsaps was the only guard on duty at Western Academy Community Education Center, in the 4200 block of South Western Avenue. The school operates a program that seeks to prevent first-time, teenage offenders from committing new crime.
The lone guard did not fire any shots, Gordon said. There were witnesses, but investigators at the LAPD’s Southwestern Division said they have no suspects.
