Political Rhetoric
Re “Growth Not Issue to Foes of Parks and Masry,” Oct. 8.
I was struck by Thousand Oaks City Councilman Dan Del Campo’s statement: “I won’t vote no just for the sake of voting no. I’m nobody’s puppet. Campaigning is one thing, governing is another.”
This confirms that when he campaigned on a slate with two other individuals in 1998, his statements were nothing more than “campaign rhetoric,” which is somewhat troubling.
Del Campo never would have been elected but for the endorsement of Linda Parks and the electorate in Newbury Park. He had the last laugh when he barely won a seat by a few votes over Judy Lazar and stated that he was just happy to be on the City Council.
I agree with Parks on some issues and disagree with her on others. Why attempt to include Del Campo in a so-called “slow-growth majority” if she and Ed Masry are elected?
In two years, Del Campo’s term will expire. Parks should focus on finding a candidate who will not hide behind political rhetoric just to get elected.
