Oxnard Theaters
Imagine my dismay when I learned that all the candidates for the Oxnard City Council except Martin Jones and Joe Avelar support the building of movie theaters downtown.
I guess they haven’t read the newspaper stories that the United Artists, Edwards and Carmike chains are all asking for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in defaulting on loans. And on Sept. 19, there was a similar story on the General Cinema chain. Each chain’s spokesperson said that they overbuilt and that the movie theater market is saturated.
What can these candidates be thinking? I’m thinking that they want to saddle us with another River Ridge football camp.
I’ll be voting my pocketbook on Nov. 7: no downtown theaters.
